For 24 years, Minto has been involved in the CHEO Dream Home Lottery, building dream homes for the worthy cause of the CHEO Foundation. This year’s home is located in the Mahogany community of Manotick and was named “The Oasis” after a contest in February. The name perfectly captures the design inspired by the modern Belgian farmhouse style, with its neutral palettes and calm environment, co-designed by Tanner Vine of Tanner Vine Interiors and Karen van der Velden of Minto.
Home Description
The 5,000 square foot home sits on a large lot with no rear neighbours and features three bedrooms, a finished recreation room, a home office, a sunroom, an open concept kitchen, a dining room, a large living area, a large upstairs living room and a third floor loft. More information on the features and design will be available on MintoDreamHome.com as construction progresses.

Our Contribution
We are extremely proud to contribute to access to health care for children by manufacturing custom furniture. Steve Read, President and CEO of the CHEO Foundation, said in an interview with CTV News:
"For us, this is the largest fundraiser we have, and an important source of funding for the children and families we serve. It allows us to put the best equipment in the hands of our doctors and surgeons, fund cutting-edge research, and provide programs and services for families in treatment."
As parents of young children, working with Tanner and Minto on this project was a no-brainer as it is a cause that is deeply close to our hearts.
The Pieces of Furniture
It took several meetings to define the project requirements, followed by shop drawings and samples. The manufacturing of the furniture begins this month, August 2024, and the following pieces will be delivered at the end of the month:
- Upholstered White Oak Dining Room Bench: An elegant and comfortable piece, designed to fit perfectly in the dining room and provide a convivial space for family meals.
-
Coffee table with Dekton insert on the top: A mix of noble materials that reflects nature. This piece combines white oak with the modernity and durability of Dekton.
- White Oak Waterfall Bench: A functional and aesthetic entryway piece.
-
Kidney Bar Table with Matching Base: A unique and functional design to create a stylish and inviting bar area.
- Two decorative pedestals: Designed in white oak to display decorative pieces.
- Lounge chair: Made of white oak and upholstered. Ultimate comfort with an elegant design, perfect for relaxing moments.
- Two floating shelves: Practical and aesthetic, they will offer additional storage space while maintaining the harmony of the interior design.
Next Steps
We will have the chance to go on-site to see the final result at the end of August. In part 2 of this blog, we will explore the material choices and finished products that will complete the home. We will also share the challenges encountered and solutions found throughout the project.
